| Latest News BIODOSE INTELLIGENT PACKAGING IMPROVES CARE HOME EFFICIENCY BY 75% Biodose is the first system in the world to accommodate liquid medicines alongside tablets and capsules. Pre-measured medicine pods sealed in a tamper-proof tray have helped care workers at Belamacanda, part of the Black Swan Care Group, to reduce dosage inconsistencies by up to 50%. Using Biodose personalised packaging combined with a bespoke software system, pharmacies can supply care homes with medication monitoring checklists customised to each patient. This allows carers and dispensing doctors to see at-a-glance the quantities, intervals and types of medication patients need to take. Incorporating a photo of each patient and type of tablet, the checklists are a valuable measure in reducing error and increasing compliance. “We initially adopted the Biodose system to combat the difficulties of administering liquid medication, which has been an ongoing challenge for us over the last 20 years,” says Michael Melton, manager of the Belamacanda care home. “We approached various suppliers but this was the only solution that allowed us to manage liquids and tablets together. Biodose has hugely improved efficiency, giving us more time to prioritise hands-on patient welfare. It has really revolutionised the way we handle medication, and finally brought our processes into the 21st century.” “The effect Biodose has had on productivity and consistency at Belamacanda is a clear example of the difference medication management systems can make,” says Protomed director, Norman Niven. “We will continue to work with care homes like this, to help them use their limited resources more effectively and raise the quality of care for residents.” |
