about protomed

About Us

Protomed started life in 2007 as the brainchild of a small team led by pharmacist and former BUPA director Norman Niven. Pooling their passion and expertise, Protomed’s founders challenged the status quo in medication management.

Care homes, domiciliary carers and pharmacists were trapped in an age of blister packs, pill boxes, dispensers, MAR sheets and measuring spoons. Consumers, patients and the elderly were being exposed to widespread medication error. A future-friendly, tried-and-tested monitored dosage system (MDS) could change all this. And so, the company’s debut innovation, Biodose™ was born, to wide industry-acclaim.

Sky-rocketing sales of Biodose demanded a rapid response. By hand-picking the most respected names in healthcare, the original Protomed team grew three-fold in as many years. But the aim remains the same; to drive medicines management into the 21st century.

Protomed‘s portfolio of groundbreaking monitored dosage solutions is proven to combat errors in taking and administering medication. Care homes throughout the UK have improved compliance with the help of the Biodose monitored dosage system.
